THE VOLUNTEERS’ CORNER

Meet Our New Friends of the Shasta County Libraries Volunteer Coordinator

BARBARA LORENTZ has been a member of the Friends of Shasta County Libraries for many years and has always been an active volunteer. She worked at several of the booksales that were held in the basement of the old library, and since retiring has found that she is able to donate more of her time at the place that has been so important to her and her family.

She graduated from St. Joseph’s School and Shasta high School in Redding and then went on to get her BS degree in Urban Planning and her Masters in Education at Cal Poly, Pomona where she also majored in Education, and obtained her teaching and administrative credentials.

She returned to Shasta County where she was employed as a teacher in the Redding School District and was principal in both the Butte Valley and Twin Rivers School Districts.

After high school, Barbara traveled extensively in Europe and has even lived in Spain and in Germany. Her last trip was last year when she spent two months in Europe. Her next big trip will be to either Sweden and Finland, or to Spain where her mother was born.

Barbara has a daughter who has given her two super wonderful grandchildren: Clara Barbara and Henry Francisco.

Her hobbies include reading, knitting, movies and stamp collecting and her favorite authors include the current crop of Scandinavian mystery writers.

She loves working at the library and is anxious to meet all of our volunteers at various events.
